The Aero Testing Process
Aero Testing with Velo Performance is a track-based testing protocol analysing your CdA (coefficient of aerodynamic drag) data to make informed decisions about optimising your position on the bike, equipment & garment choices. Whether you are a cyclist or triathlete riding faster and more efficiently is a common goal. It is well documented that your body accounts for 80-90% of aerodynamic drag when you are cycling and because your body is so unique, optimising your own personalised position can have a significant affect in enhancing cycling speed.
We offer a range of packages and have partnered with First Wheel and 18Sixty8 to bring you an overall package with customised cockpit and garment choices to further enhance your performance.
An aerometer is used to measure CdA and this is used to model your performance. Other technology including saddle pressure mapping and video is used to assess positional changes as required. Testing protocols and modelling have been specifically designed in-house and fine-tuned over a number of years and will be individualised based on your requirements and goals.

Testing package for athletes with pre-determined positions and/or equipment. Detailed analysis and modelling will be completed and presented to you following the session.

Aero Testing
This testing package includes the Velo Performance ‘Velo Fit Pro Aero’ session allowing a full Bike Fit to be completed prior to the Aero Track Testing session. The aim of this session is to optimise your body position, pedalling mechanics and equipment on the bike relative to your individual cycling discipline and goals. From this session there will be a range of body positions and equipment changes unique to yourself to be tested and CdA data captured during Aero Testing will be used to help determine your optimised position. Detailed analysis and modelling will be completed and presented to you following the session.

Aero Testing
This testing package is based on the Pro Package plus customised add-on options of First Wheel cockpit’s and 18sixty8 garments. This includes the Velo Performance ‘Velo Fit Pro Aero’ session allowing a full Bike Fit to be completed prior to the Aero Track Testing session. Add On Options
Cockpit by First Wheel
- A – First Wheel Semi-Custom Cockpit package
- Include any existing extension model + risers (as advertised currently on FW website)
- B – First Wheel Fully Custom Tri Cockpit package
- One-piece cockpit designed specifically for the client’s preferred position (to be determined in the testing session)
- Pre set-up consultation
- Supply of demo equipment and appropriate mounting hardware for the testing sessions
- High stack / long reach setups may require some additional cost due to added design/manufacturing cost for the riser(s)
Note: bar manufacturing takes 6-8 weeks
Garments by 18Sixty8
- Two made to measure skin suits/tri suits.
- Custom colour and graphic design including sponsor logos.
- Pre set-up consultation for measurements – measurement by 18Sixty8 in Warkworth or self measured using guidelines and chart.
Note: Suits take 2-3 weeks to manufacture

Aero Testing
The Premier Package is for those athletes wanting an all-inclusive package with a fully customised First Wheel cockpit and fully customised 18Sixty8 garments. You will spend a full day at the velodrome working through the Velo Performance ‘Velo Fit Pro Aero’ session, complemented by customised assessment and fitting of a First Wheel cockpit with First Wheel onsite. Garments will be fitted and optimised onsite with 18Sixty8. You will then compete an extended Aero Testing session on the velodrome with the primary aim of confirming your optimised position and overall system requirements. Your optimised system will include a detailed overview of your body position, customised cockpit and garments specific to your cycling discipline and goals. Detailed analysis and modelling will be completed and presented to you following the session.
